PEACHY Rules

Already play APA? PEACHY will feel familiar — but with more true tournament-style rules and more accurate handicapping. Here are the key differences.

Don't worry about memorizing everything. Captains, League Representatives, and PEACHY staff are happy to help new players learn the game.

8-Ball Rules

  • Rear corner balls must be opposite groups
  • Ball-in-hand anywhere on the table
  • 8 on the break is not a win or loss
  • Call shots when intended ball or pocket is not obvious
  • Call safeties clearly
  • Slop is less forgiving than APA
  • Alternating breaks after first rack

9-Ball Rules

  • Fargo-based race format
  • 3 fouls in a row = loss of rack
  • Push-out allowed after the break
  • Strategic safety play matters more
  • Alternating breaks after first rack
  • Players lag for break on first rack

Scoring System

8-Ball Game Scoring

Winner: 14 points

Losing: 1 point per object ball pocketed (max 7)

9-Ball Game Scoring

Winner: 14 points

Losing: 1 point per legal ball pocketed (max 8)

Team Scoring Formula

The winner receives 100 points plus the margin of victory.

The loser receives the number of points they actually scored.

Common Fouls to Know

Scratch

Cue ball goes into any pocket. Results in ball-in-hand for opponent anywhere on the table.

No Rail After Contact

After hitting the object ball, either a ball must go to a rail or the cue ball must. Very common foul.

Double Hit / Push Shot

Striking the cue ball twice in one stroke, or following through on a slow shot illegally.

Wrong Ball First (9-Ball)

Must strike the lowest numbered ball on the table first. Missing this is an automatic foul.

Safety Play — Always Announce It

When playing defensively, always say "Safe" or "Safety" clearly before or during your shot. Do not assume your opponent knows your intention.
